Our Story
Comfort, Character, and Quiet Charm
OUR STORY
Set across from Winthrop University at 626 Oakland Avenue, The Book & Spindle welcomes guests into a stately Southern manor whose story reaches back more than a century. Built in the early twentieth century as part of Rock Hill’s historic residential expansion and carefully restored in recent years, the house preserves its original character—hardwood floors, tall ceilings, formal rooms, and wide porches—while evolving into a boutique retreat for modern travelers. Today, each suite continues that tradition of hospitality, offering a quiet place to pause, read, and gather in one of the city’s most walkable and enduring neighborhoods, just steps from gardens, cafés, and the campus that has shaped generations of Rock Hill’s life and culture.

A Stay Rooted in History
At The Book & Spindle, every stay begins with a sense of place. Set in a restored 1912 mansion overlooking Winthrop University, the house invites guests to slow down, settle in, and enjoy Rock Hill at a more thoughtful pace. Each suite is named for a writer whose work reflects curiosity, travel, or imagination—an echo of the journeys our guests bring with them. Whether you arrive for a university visit, a quiet weekend away, or time to explore Old Town Rock Hill, you’ll find spaces designed for rest, conversation, and the simple pleasure of staying somewhere with a story to tell.
Transparent & Comfortable Living
We believe in complete transparency. From pricing to amenities, you’ll always know exactly what to expect. No hidden fees, no surprises just honest, straightforward hospitality that puts your comfort first.
Our spaces feature natural materials, abundant light, and thoughtful touches that create the perfect balance of luxury and livability.
